Description : Amoako sits infront of the bricked up backdoor of the Lafayette Presbyterian Church founded in 1857 by abolistionist families in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The church had sold off their court yard to a real estate developer because it needed to raise money immediately, forshadowing that the neighborhood was becoming unaffordable due to gentrification for those who created it’s history. The church holds a history of being an abolitionist church that facilitated the Underground Railroad - which runs under half the block. Notable abolitionist that have spoken there consist of Fredrick Douglas , Booker T. Washington, Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth. <
